eye discoloration

my seven old son starting having allergies two years ago and with it he has a brown discoloration in both eyes like around the cornea. he has been to many doctors,given many eye drops but nothing seem to work. The only eye drop that is helping a little is the vexol 1%. I fear for the eyesights. can you please help me.

Hi, welcome to the forum, the common causes of such discoloration would be Infectious keratitis, Bacterial keratitis, Viral keratitis, Iritis and Subconjunctival hemorrhage. It can start with the red eye and later due to blood pigment changes it can stain brown. It can be seen in allergic conditions.  It can occur spontaneously or with Valsalva associated with coughing, sneezing, straining, or vomiting.

Vexol helps to reduce the inflammation. Most common side effect is  Temporary mild blurred vision. It will not effect the eye sight. He needs regular checkup, may be once in every 2-3 months.

Usual management consists of  
- Basic eye care - you should not rub eyes.
- Treatment of dry eyes- use of artificial tears throughout the day will dilute the allergen.
- Allergen avoidance- You need to find the allergen and you need to avoid further exposure.
-  Allergy evaluation - You need to consult allergy specialist for evaluation of the allergen by skin testing. A history of concomitant rhinitis, asthma, or systemic allergic will be useful to know the allergen.

I suggest him to consult ophthalmologist. Take care and regards.
