frequent inflammation of lips and eye lids for the last one week

Hi good people,

My niece has a problem for the past one week of waking up when the lips and eye lids (similar to eye bags) are swollen and when she takes cetrizine and diclofenac, the inflammation goes away.

She is 29 years and tells me she had the same problem about 10 years ago and cleared .
what could be the problem

Hi, the condition strongly suggests angioedema which is due to hypersensitivity reaction. This reaction is mediated by IgE antibodies.

The culprits can be Drugs like amoxicillin and certain food (peanuts, butter, sea food, soy etc.) can cause such reaction. This is an emergency condition because there will be associated laryngeal edema leading to breathing problems.

Firstly you should identify the triggering factor and avoid exposure. Inj. Adrenaline - in case of breathing problems, oral anti-histaminics and corticosteroids are the standard mode of treatment which should be taken only after consultation from physician. Take care and regards.
