Hello and hope you are doing well.

The 'hairball' feeling you are experiencing could be due to infections or inflammations of the throat. Check to see if there are any patches. Sometimes it could also be due to tumors or growths. It could also be due to allergies. It can also happen due to iron deficiency anemia causing Plummer-Vinson syndrome, where there changes to the soft lining of the throat. Only a consultation with your primary care physician can help diagnose.

In the meantime repeated salt water gargles may help. Mix one teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water and gargle. Please ensure to do this prior to your meals.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

I had also experienced the same exact thing. It feels as if something small is lodged in your throat and you can't swallow or caugh it up. I took a flashlight and looked at the back of my throat and went to the ER.  I was diagnosed with coblestone...which is allergies. I was prescribed allegra with decongestant and took all the med as directed.  As long as I take my allergy meds I am fine otherwise I begin the allergy symptoms again.  Good luck!

Hi and welcome to the community.

You should discuss GERD with your doctor.  There is a form of GERD in which the refluxed material comes up into the back of the throat and even the sinuses causing a "globus" sensation - something being caught in your throat.

I hope that helps.  Please keep us posted.

God bless.
