hot spots on legs

hot spots on legs

I am a 44 yr old female and for the past four to five days I have been getting hot areas on the back of one of my legs, it is usually high up on my leg. If I am standing it just feels like an incredible heat patch and if I am sitting the sensation is like I sat on some hot water. What is it does anyone know. My leg is starting to feel slightly stiff also.

I've had a similar experience over the past few weeks.  Out of the blue, I've had this "hot spot" on the front side of my upper left thigh.  It last for 15-30 seconds, then disappears as mysteriously as it starts.  At first it happened once every 2-3 days; today, it's been a recurring theme.  I never have any outward appearance - no swelling, no redness, no musle aches or pains, no tingling.  Both my MD and an Orthop. suggested it was a case of crossed nerves sending the wrong messages to the area and it would eventually disappear.  I'm still concerned.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
There is a possibility that it is deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This is the result of venous pooling and sluggishness resulting in clot formation. Smoking and contraceptive pills hasten the process. This can be diagnosed by color Doppler or by angiogram of the leg veins.

Please talk to your doctor about this. I am not saying it is DVT, but it should be investigated.

The other possibility is ‘restless leg syndrome’. “Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder characterized by unpleasant sensations in the legs and an uncontrollable urge to move them for relief.” You can read more about this on: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/restless_legs/restless_legs.htm

Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I had the same experience myself and l am almost always run off my feet.
I don't think it is something to be alarmed about but it is certainly very interesting indeed. :)

I'm 36 yr old female and last 2 days I have been getting this really hot spot on the bottom side of my left leg. I didn't think much of it yesterday but today all day for a few seconds all the sudden this area of my leg had a really hot sensation and as quickly as seemed to heat up it went away. My boyfriend said he never heard of and said its probably in my head. I know what I'm feeling and its so unusual to me even and that's why I searched it and found many similiar stories but nothing definate of what could be.  I do smoke, take birth control. I also injured my back last year by falling down and was adjusted a few times by the chiropractor because I could barely stand cuz my hip shifted. My hipbone has been bothering me again for a few weeks and not sure if this is cause of hot spot
