My allergy has been citrus related..must be.....all of a sudden a few years ago it flared up,but I keep forgetting about it,as I am surrounded by citrus of all kinds.
Oranges,Naarties,Kumquats and Grapefriut grow around me.
My question, could the pollen of the blooming trees trigger a citrus allergy ?
Citric acid is found in many products...can one classify these ?
My fingers swell, the lips itch and produce a stickyness that lasts 14 days, clears up,just to strat again...where can I find help ?

I am also allergic to citric acid but my reaction is much different.  I can't stop sneezing, my nose won't stop running, I have problems breathing and it usually takes at least 8 hours to start feeling better.  It usually takes me 2 days before I get my energy back and can get off the couch.  Some things with Citric acid I react to worst then others.  I have spent the last 20 years feeling tired and fighting to get off my couch.  I am very blessed to have a wonderful husband that never got angry with me for always being on the couch and never having the energy to clean.  In the last year I have discovered it is in 50% of my house hold stuff.  I have turned my house into a citric acid free house hold and I have finally come back to life.  I have been poisoning myself for all these years.  I am just so happy I finally figured it out & so is my husband.  Can anyone suggest a shampoo that doesn't have citric acid in it?  I have purchased products on the internet but it is getting costly.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,

Eczema is not an allergic reaction to a substance, but it can be provoked by allergens in your baby's environment or diet — or in your diet if you're breastfeeding. The rash can also be aggravated by heat, irritants that come in contact with your baby's skin (like wool or the chemicals in some soaps, lotions, and detergents), changes in temperature, and dry skin.Ref: http://www.babycenter.com/0_eczema_10872.bc

If you think that your baby is having food allergy, then food challenge tests will be the best for confirming the foods to which he is allergic. However, aproximately 90 percent of all food allergies are caused by milk, peanuts, eggs, wheat, soy, treenuts and shellfish. Can you identify any of these?

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your child is doing or if you have any additional queries

I am allergic to citric acid and found it to be in EVERYTHING not limited to food, but also soaps, detergents, lotions, etc. I too get a rash on my face... It sometimes starts as bumps, but then gets flakey. Is that what it looks like???

Food allergies are usually pretty easy to find, but bothersome to identify.  Eczema that is usually restricted to one area of the skin may also be caused by a topical agent allergy.  What do you put on the face and not the rest of the body?  Do you wash with a "special" soap, or use a wet sort of wipe?  Maybe a wash cloth?  It could still have some soap in it not rinsed out in the washing machine.  Maybe a sunscreen?  A lotion?  Have you checked the pillow the child uses? Does he have a special "blankie" that he rubs on his face?  Do you use tissues for his nose, or maybe he hugs a stuffed animal with the allergin on it?  Does he use a deodorant soap or an anti-bacterial soap?  Often kids have problems with bubble bath or soaps with perfume in them on the face and not the rest of the body.  Take away everything that normally touches his face for at least a week, or when his face gets better, re-introduce each item until he has a reaction.  Make sure you try everything for a reaction, there is a chance it may be more than one thing, but a combination of different things or food.  Good luck

Some common things are egg whites, tomatoes, apples, and juice or friut high in vitamin C or citric acid. Try eliminating one thing at a time for a week at a time to see if you can find what it is. You can get a full set of allergy tests run, but his Dr. may just be reluctant to do it on an infant unless his health is really threatened.

Here is a link to website that has a blood test you can do at home, and send back to them. You would have to pay out of pocket for it though, but I think it is supposed to be simple to do.
