itchy arms

wow finally Ive not lost my mind I feel for all of you with the itchy arm syndrome I have had it for 2 years I went to a specialist and they told me it was a nerve problem and I would have it for the rest of my life (god I hope not) they gave me capizan cream and i learned the hard way not to use a lot of this its made from cayanne pepper and can burn your skin when I used it sparingly it helped also a lot of moisturizer and long sleeves at night relieves the itching. It feeles like my skin is crawling under the skin not on top an intense tingly feeling burning  i guess . I found that when im driving if my arm is in the sun while driving it intensifies the itch. I was thinking I was allergic to the sun but then why only my arms and not my legs. last year it was only on my left arm not the dominate one this year its both arms  so its spread?? I sure hope someone out there can find a solution and a reason for this. I am in North Dakota and have a lake place in minnisota. oh yes and this started after I picked up and carried a piece of wood that had white stuff on it so I was thinking parasites as well .We need help I hope someone in the medical profession and one more thing are all you women out there going or have gone thru menopause. that would either put us in aan age range or rule that out I am 57

But thank you for your kind response I will see if weight loss helps. I am thinking that too much sun in the summer is the cause of this

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi, the possibilities of itching are primary skin disorders like Xerosis where there is dryness of skin and seen commonly in winter. Atopic dermatitis which is seen due to allergic background and  Contact dermatitis due to direct skin exposure to a substance which can be a allergen or irritant.

Other causes for itching and worms like sensation are worm infestations like ascaris and liver flukes, cholangitis and biliary stasis, thyroid disorder and delusional parasitosis.

I suggest you to get the following parameters checked like liver function, thyroid function and absolute eosinophil count.  Anti-histamines will help to relieve the pruritis. Identify and avoid the triggering factor which you been exposed to recently. Use sunscreen lotions when going out in sunlight and continue using moisturizer.  Consult a dermatologist. Take care and regards.
