jaw pain

my jaw hurts and when i yawn it hurts  what do you think  it wrong

Hi, this condition is known as jaw joint dysfunction. The causes are grinding or clenching your teeth (bruxism), especially at night, biting your nails or grasping things between your teeth other factors like fatigue, anxiety or stress.

You should avoid eating hard foods, you can use mouth guard if have Bruxism, Pain killers if associated with pain, hot compresses and skeletal muscle relaxants if there is a spasm of buccinators or other facial muscles.

Other possibilities are infection of the TMJ (temperomandibular joint), temporal arteritis, Eagle’s syndrome (stylohyoid syndrome), parotid gland disorders etc. For infection, you need to take empirical antibiotic and NSAIDs course against prescription. I suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon. Take care and regards.
