lesions

I recently had a mole biopsy. It was melanoma only .6 cm deep and the slow growing kind. Following the biopsy they did a cat scan and found a lesion on my liver, esophagus, and several on the lungs. I have no symtoms (symptoms) nor does anything show up in blood work. I had a liver biopsy 3 days ago (awaiting the pathology) If not cancer what other reasons could cause the lesions. I tested positive on a skin TB test 30 yrs ago (minimal reaction) 3 yrs ago I was tested again and still had a minimal reaction. They gave me a live antibiotic for six months as a preventative.

Hi, welcome to the forum, the most probable cause for such lesions would be Miliary tuberculosis (TB). In this type of TB there is spread of the organism through the blood stream where they lodge in various organs and form lesions. It can involve nay organ.

Other causes to be ruled out are Endemic fungi (histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis, blastomycosis etc.), Nocardiosis, Meliodosis, Viral like Cytomegalovirus, Parasitic, Neoplastic diseases like Lymphoma, Sarcoidosis, Amyloidosis etc.

You need to undergo the biopsy of the lesion under guidance of the radio imaging and should be sent for histopathology to know the nature of the lesion.

If TB is confirmed then the treatment with anti tubercular drugs should be restarted, only if the lesions are spreading and are active. This decision lies in the hand of treating physician. I suggest you to consult physician for further evaluation. Take care and regards.
