milk protien allergy

My 95 year old mother was told she has a milk allergy, specifically a delayed reaction to milk protien.  She was given a list of foods that she could not eat and told to read all labels to see if the foods had these ingredents.  Just about anything you eat. no bread, butter, cheese, whey, you name it it is on this list.  She is in assisted living and made the diatian a list of foods that she could eat.  Since she is "allergic" to citrus foods, gaseos foods, sugar, there is very little she can eat.

Does anyone know anything about a milk protien allergy because I cannot find much information as to how to deal with this?  Her tongue swells and hurts if she eats something that has milk in it-cooked or not.

Thanks

Hi,

Milk protein allergy or lactose intolerance is what your mother is suffering from. You could talk to your gastroenterologist or allergy specialsit. Or you could also ask your doctor to refeer you to a certified nutrition specialsit to draw up a diet plan for your mother in light of her symptoms.

She/ he would give you a list of food stuffs that can be had by your mother and also advise you on how to compensate for the deficits.

Let us know how your mother is doing and what the doctor advises.

Regards.

Casein is probably what your mother reacts to.  You might google Celiacs or leaky gut.  It is not normal to have the delayed allergic responses to so many "natural" items.  With celiacs, the continued ingestion of gluten leads to development of other intollerances; most commonly or first Casein because it is similar to gluten.  As the gut further harms itself, it can create other food intollerances and leaky gut.  Most of these "delayed" and not acute reactions can be reversed if you let the healing occur, and with Celiacs this means eliminating gluten completely and the other trouble foods for a period of time and slowing reintroducing them.

I don't know if she has Celiacs, or has even been tested; but seems there is alot of inflammation caused by something that has led to leaky gut.  Just some stuff for you to look into.
