my doctor says i have an allergy or exzema(eczema) what do you think?

ok well my ear has been really wet and it stinks, plus my ear is uncontrollably itchy. it has been like this for a month now and its getting worse.  My doctor gave me antibiotics which releived the itching but never cured it.  Now i am perscribed to use some ear drops.  I am just concerned that either i have exzema (eczema) or an allergy.  In my first appointment he says i have an infection.  Now he says its exzema (eczema) or an allergy and i dont want to be taking meds that possibly are not for what i have.  so if anybody else has this ear problem i would be more than happy for some advice. Thank you.

Sinus allergies will cause fluid to build up in the ear.  This is usually because of congestion.  Often when you treat the congestion, the fluid build-up in the ears will drain out.  Try sinus rinses using the gravity method with a netti pot or use one of the saline nasal sprays to clear the nasal sinuses.  This will often help the symptoms in your ears.  If you look at a chart with the sinuses, you'll see that the nasal cavity is quite large.  Also, try taking just the OTC dosage of Benadryl, too, which should help the itching caused by the allergy.  Do not take more than the recommended amount of the OTC antihistamines.  Do use the ear drops that your doctor prescribed.  Often those help with the allergies initially, too.  These are the things I used when my ears felt the same way.  It was allergies for me, too.  Ask your doctor if he saw fluid build-up in the ears.  If none of the things I already mentioned brings you relief in your ears, ask your doctor if he recommends the use of Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed).  DON'T use it without checking with your doctor, because it will raise your BLOOD PRESSURE.  Doctors don't recommend Pseudoephedrine for seniors for this reason.
