nexium

I have been having really bad heartburn and a burning feeling in my stomach.  I was told to take Nexium but I have a severe allergy to penicillin. My question is, can I take nexium if I'm allergic to penicillin?

Thank you

Hi,
How are you? Ezomeprazole or nexium is usually indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), H pylori infection, and reducing the risk of gastric ulcers. There is no drug interaction or connection with penicillin since it belongs to the group of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) which block the production of acid by the stomach. However, drug allergy can not be ascertained until you have allergic reaction to the drug after taking it. If your heart burn persist, you may need to have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and best regards.

Hi,

You should really ask your doctor or pharmacist about this.  They are the best resources regarding drug interactions and allergies.

That being said... To my knowledge there is no penicillin int Nexium, but ask your care providers first.

God bless.
