school food policy

school food policy

Please respond…

With the increasing rates of childhood obesity and anaphylaxis, are your children’s schools considering having/already have a “No Distribution of Food” policy which forbids the distribution of food by staff?  This policy is an extension to the general “don’t send any peanuts to school” rule.

For example, the No Distribution of Food policy would mean no food-based rewards are given to kids, no birthday cakes and parents are asked not to send in food-based treats for say Halloween or Valentine’s Day.  Lunch/snack and any parent attended events (i.e. BBQ, potlucks), however, would be exempt.

I just want to get a sense of where others schools are in on this issue.  When responding to the above query please note what grade or level (elementary school, middle school or high school) your children are in.

Thx
