severe itching on my arms

I have been itching on my arms for over 7 years.  It is only itching between my wrists and shoulders.  I itch until I bleed.  Only ice packs completely take the itch away.  I am seeing a chiropractor and he is looking into a possible neurological problem.  Any suggestions??

If I were you I would go see a dermatologist (skin doctor). Have you tried hydrocortisone cream? Perhaps in the mean time you may try some of that. It's about $5 a tube at any pharmacy. I had a nasty case of eczema years back. My skin would flake on my elbows and it was nothing for it to itch so bad that it bleed. Perhaps it may help what is bothering you and if not a skin doctor is by far, in my opinion, your best start. Good luck.

Hi, your symptoms are suggestive of eczema or allergic dermatitis, secondary to exposure to allergen and mediated by IgE antibodies. Your body is known to hypersensitive to certain things.  

You need to rule out the triggering factor like particular clothes you wear, any chemical agent you are exposed to etc. This triggering factor should be identified and should be avoided. A skin allergy test can be useful.

Treatment includes anti histaminic and glucocorticoids against prescription.  Apply moisturizing agents to prevent dryness of the affected skin. Take a bath before sleeping, so as to shred the allergens.
