severe post nasal drip

I am a male in good physical condition turning 62 in 2008.  I can not remember a time when I have not been aggravated by moderate to severe post nasal drip making clearing my throat an almost constant task.  I annoy anyone within ear shot and yes I annoy myself as well.   I have had work ups done by imaging technologies at my allergists request and all they noted was my sinus area was swollen but not to an extreme.  I have had allergy injections for over two years with no positive results.  I have taken allergy medications of all kinds the latest Zyrtec.  I have taken medications to dry up my sinus drip but they did almost nothing.  I must swallow a gallon of thick fluid a day or at least if feel like that much.  The condition seems to be lessened when I am lying in bed and stays fairly inactive until morning.  My eyes do not run, my head is not pounding,  I have no other symptoms other then this constant draining into the back of my throat.
Is there anyone out there that can figure out why I am afflicted with this problem and is there a cure or something that can make the problem less aggravating this side of death.

Hi,

Well, it is good to know that you have a positive approach and a good sense of humour even with so much to handle at the moment.

It is usually airborne allergies that cause symptoms of post nasal drip, food allergies exist and cause symptoms - but post nasal drip has not been associated with it frequently.

But it would be a good idea to get that checked out too.

What foods do you think cause symptoms, and what specific symptoms do you have?

Let us know about how you and 'she' is doing.

Regards.

Thank you all for bring here.  I have a sort of funny story to tell you all.  I have a fiancee who lives in China.  I met her through a friend.  Can you believe that some thirteen thousand miles away I find my sweetheart and guess what?  Yes she also suffers from the same thing we do.  What are the chances of that?  I was worried that finding a girl that would not be annoyed by my clearing of my throat would be very hard and I find a beautiful women who does not hear me because she is use to her own clearing of her throat.  Well back to what I have done so far.
I've had scans, I been on all the steroid nasal medications.  I have taken all the Antihistamines and just about anything.  I even tried the Nedi Pot which seemed to clear the nasal passage but did not stop the drip.  Reading one of your suggestions I have always suspected possible allergy but I’m thinking not airborne now.  I’m thinking that possibly ingested ( food ) might be part of the Evil.  I have noticed that after I have eaten or have drank something the intensity of the throat clearing gets worse.  Have any of you noticed this.  Take care, I’ll keep you posted if you like on my application to bring my sweetheart into the USA.  It’s a long hard expensive ordeal.  Take care Everyone.  ( Jack )

I am a 23 year old female and suffer from what people keep calling post nasal drip.  It started a few years ago and I thought it would just go away over time but it hasn't.  It has persisted every day all day to no avail. There is hope, however, I found one thing that got rid of it for a whole month, when I stopped it came back so I think I'll have to try it again.  It was a colon cleanse.  I used the one called Colonix and it worked like a charm.  It's basically just a fiber drink in the morning and some tea at night, I also purchased the probiotics.   I don't know which product exactly was the key to get rid of the post nasal drip but following the Colonix guidelines worked for me.  It also gave me more energy and I felt overall better.  I didnt' continue it because it's spendy and tastes aweful if you don't mix it in some sort of smoothie.  It's definetly worth a try for those of you who can't find relief.
I don't suffer from allergies that I know of and I eat fairly healthy with lots of fruits and veggies, so I'm not sure exactly what caused it other than a build up of toxins in the body.  I only cleansed for a month but it's recommended to do for 3 months.  I wonder if I had gone the whole 3 months if it would have completely cleared up.  You can find it at www.drnatura.com if your interested.  Good luck in finding relief

Hi,

Since when are you having these symptoms? Do you have any associated symptoms of cough, breathlessness, wheezing, post nasal drip, fever , etc?

Are you on any medications currently? Has a CT scan of your sinuses been done? Are you allergic to any specific substances? Have you had allergic reactions in the past?

You could take oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine and see if it helps with your symptoms. Also take steam inhalation and saline nasal drops several times a day.

If your symptoms still persist, you should consult your doctor because then you would need to get certain investigations done and would probably need steroid nasal sprays and a course of antibiotics.

Let us know about any other doubts that you have and post us on how you are doing.

Regards.

I asked my husband if he had written your posted cry for help. If I didn't know better I seriously would have thought he wrote it. He has EXACTLY the same thing you have!! We have never found anyone else that has this. He too has been to all kinds of doctors, sinus surgeries, acupuncture, etc. He 2 is having difficulty w/his quality of life. Last Dr. said he has to learn to live with it like a person w/chronic back problems do. He's had it about 10 yrs. He's 53. We're both at the end of our rope & don't know where to turn. When he goes to bed, he too stays completely inactive till he gets up in the morning. Did you ever find a cure or any hope? Please let us know if you have. I don't think my husband gave acupuncture enough time. You tried it?Been to Vanderbilt in TN?

Thank you for your feedback.  I have no other symptoms most of the time other then the constant flow of liquid to the back of my throat from my sinus.   I get a sore throat once in a while but that usually come as a precursor to a cold.   Most of the time the throat fills up with clear colored thick saliva like substance.  If it gets dark in color its just something adding to the primary problem. If they are going to send you on the Allergy injection path I feel sorry for you. Allergy shots take up a full time slot in your life twice a week in the beginning and then once a week.  In my case two years of allergy shots made absolutely no difference to my condition.   I hope that someone down the like can diagnose my problem with a reasonable cure.  People always think I'm trying to get their attention because I clear my throat they look up lie ( what ) do you want.  If I ever get any concrete answers I'll be pleased to share them with you

I too suffer the same problems.  I am a 39 year old woman who has been diagnosed with cold air induced asthma.  For the past three months I have been getting sore throats and sinus infections which have required me to take anitbotics continuously.  Every time I complete another round of antibiotics, the symptoms start up again...sore throats caused by post nasal drip which then goes into a sinus infection.  I am very depressed and do not know what to do anymore to stay healthy.  My doctor is now asking me to have allergy testing since they no seem to think my chronic problems may be a result of allegeries???  My CT Scan of my sinus were perfect...no structural problems that would cause these problems.  I am desperate and need some advice as to what to do.  I am sick again after taking 21 days of heavy duty antibiotics....this time I was medication free for 1 week.  HELP!!!!!
