sinus headache

I am having cold problem from last 20 years. Now from last 8 years I am facing headache and clogging of cold in sinus passage. I do have cold and dust ( old accumulated dust) allergy and hence if I do some cleaning of old articles or spend more time in water, I get immediate cold problem. Cold accumulates for 2-3 months and then headache starts. Now days I also get pain back of my head, ears or some time below ears and jaws back side.

Can anyone guide me about treatment for such sinus issues. Is any regular tablet or solution I can take avoid regular problem of sinus headache.

Does inhaling steam or message with hot water will reduce my trouble? I do get some relief with hot plastic bag message.

Have you talked to a doctor about this?  It sounds like you may not have a place for your sinsuses to drain. This happens to some people and the usual treatment is for the doctor to go in and cut what is called a "window" in the sinsues, allowing the sinus drainage a place to go.  If your sinuses cannot drain, it can cause the clogging and headaches that can eventually become too unmanageable to deal with.  Please speak to your doctor or ask for a referral to an ENT to make sure that you do have a place for the sinuses to drain.

Hi, your symptoms are suggestive of recurrent rhinosinusitis (ARS) which is a symptomatic inflammation of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. It is commonly due to viral infection associated with the common cold. Otherwise it can be complicated by bacterial infection.

Firstly you need to undergo thorough physical examination; the blind swab or Endoscopic or sinus aspirate can be cultured to rule out secondary bacterial infection. Plain sinus films and sinus CT may show sinus fluid levels if present.

Usual treatment lining consists of following steps and mentioned drugs should only be taken after consultation from physician.

- Analgesics such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories and acetaminophen are recommended for inflammation relief.
- Mechanical irrigation with buffered, hypertonic saline nasal spay.
- Topical glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) or nasal spray.
- Topical decongestants, such as oxymetazoline for short term only.
- Antihistamines will cause a drying effect and helps to relieve symptoms.
- Antibiotics if bacterial infection suspected.
- Steam inhalation can also be helpful.

I suggest you to consult ENT specialist for further evaluation. Take care and regards.
