undereye allergic reaction

by anjulee, Aug 27, 2008 08:41PM
Hi,

For the last 6 months I've been sometimes getting big bunches of hives on my undereye after applying my face cream and undereye moisturiser. They tend to be very red, swollen but not itchy. They last for about 1-2 hours. I thought it was an allergic reaction so I tried to switch creams I was using. I tried 4 different brands but eventually I always got the same reaction. So I decieded to go the all natural way and was rubbing my eyes with olive oil and still got the same reaction the other morning!
Does anybody know what thats about?
I'm very concerned as the reaction leaves my eyes puffy, and not moisturising is making my undereyes very dry.
Thanks,
Anjulee.

Hello,

Allergic reaction i.e contact dermatitis can be a possibility of puffiness and hives under the eye.

Pls don’t apply anything under the eye for some days.Take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin for some days.Apply calamine lotion on the hives. You can also apply mild hydrocortisone cream like dermacort on the hives. If the symptoms still persist then pls consult a dermatologist.Long term use of antihistaminics(>6 weeks) and double conventional doses of antihistaminics and oral steroids may be needed.

If the hives don’t go after 6 weeks of treatment also, then some systemic disease like heart disease may be suspected.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing.
