i am really scared!!!! i bent over to get out of my bunk bed and all of this yellow liquid just came dripping out of my right nosrtil! i am only 14! i have NO i dea what it is. the liquid is watery and when i felt it start to come i thought it a bloody nose but apperently not.
about a week ago i went to visit an old castle and as i was slowly walking down the spiral staircase I banged my head across the top. I stopped rubbed it and thought no more about it. 2 days later I woke up and blew my nose gently. Nothing untoward but as I reached forward something watery flowed uncontrollable from my left nostril. It spilt onto my fingers and as I rubbled them together it felt stick like blood. I switched the light on and saw that it was a clear watery substance with a tinge of yellow. It smelt and tasted horrible.
My nose continued to do this during the whole of the day.
When my wife came home from work I told her about this strange fluid and said that I had never experienced anything like it before.
She immediately rang the NHS Direct who asked me a lot of questions and told me to go and see my Doctor as soon as possible. Within half an hour I was at the Doctors who was concerned and arranged for me to go straight to hospital.
After about 3 to 4 hours I ghad had 3 blood tests done and lots of questions asked I was admitted to the Medical assessment ward who seemed to be concerned that the liquid may be brain fluid and said that I would be given a CT scan either that night or the following morning.
The results of my blood tests for infection was ok.
How ever the CT Scan was broken and when I saw the Consultant he said that he thought it inconceiveable that the bang of my head on the stairs could have caused brain fluid to leak through my nose.
He said that there was no reason to give me a scan(even though the scan was still not working) and referred me directly to the ENT Consultant.
The ENT Consultant said that he did not think that the fluid was brain fluid and that he was concerned that I may have Sinusitis and arranged for me to go back the following week where he would conduct some allergy tests. (this is in 2 days time).
I have not been given any decongestants or anti biotics and things have not changed. One thing that is very noticeable to me is that the liquid really smells and tastes horrible but not many people seem to have mentioned that.
This has happened to me a couple times before and now just happened again this morning. Today was worse than any other time that I had experienced (it has been years since it has happened) so I hopped on here to see if anyone else ever experiences it. I was just standing in the washroom washing my hands when the yellow-tinged liquid just started pouring out of my nose. It was dripping all over the counter and I saturated 3 kleenexes with it before it stopped. My nose is now sort of burning. I noticed a smell but not a taste. I'm a nursing student and have never heard of this happening to others before unless they are leaking spinal fluid from a basal skull fracture or something. The fluid doesn't halo when it hits material or a tissue so I'm assuming that it is not spinal fluid (and I haven't hit my head recently). I never remember to mention it to the doctor though when I do happen to go. If anyone else has found anything out from seeing a physician, I would be curious to hear the results.
This is not normal and it would be advisable to consult your doctor immediately.
Till then you could try some steam inhalation, decongestants, saline nasal drops, etc.
Do not try to clean your nose too vigorously.
Let us know about what your doctor advises.
Post us about how you are doing and if you need any further information.
Regards.
You may want to consider seeing your primary care physician... just to get a routine physical and let him/her know what happened.
Best,
