Herbal vs. allopathic (pharmaceutical company) medicine

I'm so tired of prescribed meds causing more problems than they cure - one prescription leading to side-effects that lead to another prescription and on and on.  Not only will doctors fail to tell you that their medications are going to
destroy your system, if there is a natural way of treating the problem, one that works BETTER than a prescription, they won't tell you.  A) They probably don't know about it, any more than they know what the full effects of the medications they prescribe, and B) Even if they know about the natural treatment, there's no possibility that they can get a financial kickback if you buy the natural treatment.

Case in point, fresh raw garlic is a fabulous antibiotic.  It stings at first, and it stinks, but it works amazingly
well... just try it- a slice of raw garlic wrapped in a bit of gauze placed between the lip and gum over a tooth abscess, within 45 minutes the pain will be gone, with repeated application so will the infection.  Your dentist will NEVER tell you about that one.

If you want your eyes opened, visit www.naturalnews.com .  If you use Facebook you can "like" their page and you will get regular updates to your home page.  Also www.earthclinic.com, just amazing what natural substances can do!

I am using regular doctors (M.D.'s are allopathic physicians) as little as possible now.  I can't afford an N.D.
(Naturopathic Doctor) so I'm getting my information online, it's easy to find but you have to use your own common sense and do a lot of research before your act.  (Case in point, I didn't read the bottle and used grapefruit seed extract - a natural anti-bacterial/anti-fungal alkalai - full-strength in a politice over an abscess tooth and burned my mouth - the bottle said don't use it full strength in the mouth but at 3am and in great pain I short-cutted the recommendations I found online and I didn't read the bottle.)  Also, natural rememidies in the health food store can be very expensive, so look at the ingredients and see if you can make it yourself using the raw materials - for example, instead of clove oil or extract for tooth pain, get ground cloves and mix with your choice of oil or a little edible alcohol - all easy to find and cheap.

Furthermore, if you look closely at the healthfood store you may find that they sell herbs and spices in bulk.  What costs $5 in a glass bottle may be way more than you need and the amount you need in a platic bag may cost only 35 cents.

I can take ordinary codeine (a controlled substance requiring a prescription - such as Tylenol3), but synthetic codeine (Vicodin and others) give me migraine headaches when they wear off.  I'm finding this to be true of other synthetic medicines.

The female homones that have caused such controversy... the only way the pharmaceutical companies could patent them was by coming up with a molecule that wasn't natural to the human body.  So all those hormone prescriptions were based on pregnant female horse urine... now they're trying to enter the bio-identical hormone market by transmuting natural substances (wild yams, for instance) into molecules identical to horse homones -- in other words, they'll call them "natural" (not "bio-identical") and continue to sell their cancer-causing poison.  Interesting, huh?

I'm really new to this, but I think it's the medicine of the future.  It was the medicine of the past before pharmaceutical companies started getting patents and got the M.D.s in their pockets (it really got its boost from penicillin, when they figured out ways to make synthetic penicillins they could patent).

There's a reason why people who eat highly spiced foods have good teeth and don't get sick as often - it's in the spices.  There's a reason why people (most of the world) who poop in a squatting position don't have colon cancer and other digestive ailments (I just got a LifeStep - worth every penny).

It's time we took our healthcare back from the pharmaceutical companies and their insurance company and M.D. puppets.  That time is now.

The AMA is neither a watchdog nor a benevolent society. It is a doctors' union. That rather suggests "them again us."

This represents an extremely complex issue and relates to what is called "standard of care protocols" and malpractice litigation.

The practice of medicine in the United States these days is quite structured, and the AMA takes great pains to insure everyone is "reading from the same hymn book".

Dr. Day, the San Francisco surgeon who treated her breast cancer non-traditionally epitomizes this problem. She has an interesting website, which discusses the issues. Even though she was a well-respedcted surgeon, it proved almost impossible for her to be treated at medical facilities in other than the AMA approved manner.

One clue is that under current protocols a physician cannot INITIATE a suggest to use a non-convention treatment.

The patient must state "I would prefer to consider a non-traditional or herbal...etc. treatment". Only then can the physician make suggestions. They won't always do so, nor may a conventional physician know what to suggest, but you have to take the initiative.

MD's who practice alternative medicine along with traditional medicine are, more often than not, covered by your insurance company. Until a couple of years ago my doctor was. He left the system because he wanted to be a doctor, not a bookkeeper. I still go to him of course, but it is expensive.

Correct me if I'm wrong... most colon cancers are found at either end (bottom in terms of orientation to the ground) of the large intestine.  Pooping in a squating or legs-raised position eliminates much stress from the tissue in these areas during defecation.  I also pee easier.

I, too, received name-calling for this post on another forum.  I was called naive.

As for the LifeStep... I have a wicked rectocele and IBS -- this thing is God sent.  So was the book Raw Family.

I have, possibly by now, had Chronic Hepatitis B. I was told I'd have it for the rest of my life as my body did not make the necessary antibody to clear the infection. I had it all my life since I was born with it. I only found out all of this a few years ago. I already knew that the for profit health care and pharma system was bias toward making profit over people well being. I refused to take the doctors advise to stay away from herbal concoctions as treatment of hbv. My viral load was well over ten million, a worse case as far as the severity of infection. Luckily I had no damage and my liver health was excellent.

After researching for alternative treatment options, I found a few, imemented them and 2 years later my viraload is only 253!

The doctors were surprised but for some reason not inquisitive o. The methods I used as they knew, I chose alternative methods. Also, the health of my liver remained excellent while using these herbal treatments. Thrilled and excited to share my results I found this site and began posting my successful treatments in several hepItits forums. I could not believe the opposition I was met with as the ideal that inspite of my personal account, th scientific published medical journals showing research support g my claims, that only conventional drugs are effective. It was unreal! I got an email from so e one a year ago with hbv who followed my advice and has no viral load or RNA detectable.

Whoops! I'm back online via my computer. Whew! Besides, that would have been censorship - there's some kind of rules about that.

In my honest opinion, the pharmaceutical companies that survive int the future will be the ones willing to develop remedies that don't require patents and will, instead, base their reputations on the quality and reliability of their products -- just like any nutritional suppleIment provider does now.  They'll also have on their side their enormous budget and vast experience advertising all the crap they've pushed on us so far. An unfair advantage, but it's a free market.

What chills me to the bone is the way they are now marketing synthetic "nutritional supplements" - patentable synthetic versions of the vitamins and minerals already found in healthy form in that master of all medicine Mother Nature. A healthy lifestyle will always be the best medicine. Many of our forebearers didn't have access to a variety of healthy foods, and were subject to the very harshest conditions in terms of work and living. We don't have that problem for the most part (I'm just about broke and very ill, so I may not have access to much in the near future) in the USA (have you read what corporations are doing to the water supplies in other, third-world countries?).

Has anybody looked into what even the ADA now has to say about the inadvisability of using flouridated water in baby formula due to neurological damage done in the growing brain? Did you know flouride was put in the water of American prisoners-of-war to dumb them down and reduce their energy? (I read this, I don't have confirmation.)

We..... We, individually and collectively, are responsible for our health and the health of our children and their children. Women were willing to go to any length to get the vote (and if your read an honest history of the women's suffrage movement you will learn some things that will shock you to your core - great, horrible, violent things that were done by authorities that never made it into any newspaper). Parents just have to accept that their children's future depends on them.

It would depend on what is causing your low thyroid.  Mine was caused by the anti-depressants I was taking.  Changing to a different one helped, but quitting them altogether helped more. I no longer have low thyroid. Now I drink calming, stress-relieving teas and use homeopathy (sepia) for the depression and mood swings.
Do an online search for "natural treatments for low thyroid" and you will find a number of reputable websites with recommendations.
Keep in mind that the best suggestion may not always be one you're happy with.  Last week I awoke with an abscessed tooth - a root-canalled/crowned tooth, not six months old. The lump extended from my gum all the way up under my eye. Very severe pain, as I am already quite weak from a lifetime of poor diet and 18 straight years of over-medication. I tried my pharmaceutical option - Tylenol4 - zero relief. So I desperately went online and looked for ways to alleviate my pain. The overwhelming answer was to put a slice of raw garlic clove in between my lip and gum at the site of the abscess. "Yuk! No way!"
So I kept reading. Second best was cloves - I had no form of cloves in the house. Then there were a number of recommendations of a lesser nature, including references to grapefruit seed extract, activated charcoal and echinacea. I had some grapefruit seed extract I'd bought many years ago for a candida infection, some activated charcoal that I keep in my bird's cage, and some echinacea tea for when I get a cold. So at 3am, without reading the bottle, I made a poultice of those three in a bit of gauze and put it between my lip and gum. The many references to garlic warned that it stings like the very dickins, almost as bad as the abscess pain, and it was 3am and I was ill, in pain, tired, etc. so I tolerated the burn. The pain did not go away. After three hours I gave up and took it out... only to find that I had not done what the website recommendations had said to do (dilute the grapefruit seed extract) and had done what the bottle said NOT to do (used it undiluted in your mouth) and had burned the inside of my mouth really badly.
At that point I would have put horse hockey in my mouth if someone had told me it would stop the abscess pain. I (finally) got out the garlic, cut a slice, wrapped it in a bit of gauze and put it in my mouth - yes, it burned incredibly, agonizingly, but it was nothing compared to the abscess. After 45 minutes the pain stopped. Period. The nasty taste was still there, I'm sure my breath was awful, but who cares? Not only did the pain stop, but after three hours the lump over my gum to under my eye, was virtually gone.
With the full knowledge that antibiotics had never yet kept me from either getting a root canal or having the tooth pulled (and since this tooth was already root-canalled and therefore doomed), AND the knowledge that taking the antibiotics was going to screw-up my digestion, cause diarrhea and probably another candida infection, in the morning I bowed to pressure from others and called the dentist and got antibiotics. (I was relieved at the idea of not having to have raw garlic in my mouth, too.) I've taken the antibiotics every day since... while the lump has returned and grown to three times the size it was the night of the abscess. I've talked to the dentist and he says that what I am taking is the only thing he prescribes for dental abscesses and is the gold standard.
So, last night, amid the jeers of my household, I got out the garlic. Because of the burn in my mouth and the fact that there was no abscess pain behind it, having the garlic against my gum was sheer agony - for two hours - not something I would lightly volunteer to experience (it made me regret that I had not continued the therapy originally). Then the pain went away and I went to sleep. This morning two-thirds of the lump is gone – partly flaccid instead of hard, like it was last night, but mostly just plain gone.
I will be a "good" girl and finish off my antibiotics. But I'm going to continue the garlic until all trace of infection is gone and for some time afterward. My research indicates that there is an excellent chance that I can save this tooth.  How do 'ya like *them* apples?
As for the burn, I called the company and she told me to treat it as any severe burn would be treated: edible aloe vera or yogurt poultices. My own research on burns to the mouth indicated that infection was an issue with a caustic burn (well, actually only if it was consumed in quantity and swallowed), but between the antibiotics and the garlic I have had no trouble. Since it hurts I have added organic powdered cloves. Stops that pain completely. No side effects. I am using aloe, cloves and garlic at the moment.
By the way, I'm spending a fortune on probiotics and yogurt (more natural treatments I don't like, but Diflucan 200mg twice a day for three months hasn't worked in the past) trying to fend off the gut and vaginal candida infections that always follow antibiotic use. I've had diarrhea since the day after I started the antibiotics. The garlic, reputedly, does not cause any such problem, so I read, and it makes sense. The antibiotics are synthetic, the garlic is not. I trust Nature to know how to kill off the bad pathogens without killing off the beneficial flora and fauna of my body -- the pharmaceutical companies have already profoundly proven that they don't know how.
So, look up natural treatments, just remember that there is a reason why the image of a little kid screwing up his face as a spoonful of medicine is administered is a classic! :)
And, like any medicine, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS and keep your common sense handy (wish I’d done that when it was clear that the prescriptions were killing me).
I might have been more specific in answering your question, but A) I’m not qualified to give medical advice and don’t take responsibility for anybody else’s healthcare and B) I’ve already been reprimanded by MedHelp for posting the address of a natural health website as well as for posting the same information to more than one thread. They said I was risking action for spamming.

Hm, I just tried to post this but my Road Runner connection won't bring up MedHelp, yet my smartphone will.  Interesting. Is it possible to block someone by their I-whatever-it-is address?  Who knows, this may be the last time you hear from me!

To start with always look for a fair comparison for example do not just go for the quote with the lowest price on a comparison site. Always remember though the cheapest quote may not offer you the best cover for example on the cheapest quote you may lose out on extra that you would get with another insurance quote.

Sample of books you get online (.pdf) FREE when you join (also free) NaturalNews.com

Secret Sources for Healing Foods and Natural Medicines
http://www.naturalnews.com/SpecialReports/SecretSources.pdf
"This book reveals the little-known sources where you can purchase foods, food ingredients and herbal products that very few people know about, yet are critical for overcoming chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart disease and clinical depression. In this book you’re going to learn about where to buy freeze-dried berries that work as powerful whole food vitamins that will lower cholesterol, fight cancer, enhance immune system function, prevent cardiovascular disease, and provide a long list of other benefits.
"But that’s only the beginning. You’ll also learn about a little-known source for rainforest herbs that holds the key to reversing cancer, fighting off infectious disease, and even surviving a flu epidemic. Beyond that, I’ll also tell you where you can get freeze-dried vegetables that you can eat as a replacement for potato chips or fried foods. These freeze-dried vegetables give you the crunchy texture you crave when you’re wanting comfort foods, but without all the trans fats and calories found in typical snacks.
"I’ll also tell you where you can get the best superfood mixes on the internet. These mixes are powders that contain a variety of superfoods with the ability to prevent and even treat chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, clinical depression and many more. I’ll also share the best sources for getting chlorella and spirulina.
"You’ll even learn where to buy quinoa and other ancient grains for just pennies on the dollar. Normally if you go into a health food store to buy quinoa, you’re going to pay as much as $10 a pound for it. I’ll show you where to get it for a little more than $2 a pound! I’ll also show you where to get flax seeds for about a $1 a pound, or where to buy oat bran for a little more than $2 a pound.
"I’ll show you where to get real salt that’s been harvested from the ocean rather than concocted in a synthetic chemical factory (like common table salt). I’ll reveal where to purchase stevia extract powder – a natural herbal sweetener that replaces sugar – at the very best price you’ll find anywhere.
"I’ll show you how to buy sea vegetable powders for pennies on the dollar, and reveal sources of healthy oils like avocado oil and cancer-fighting apricot kernel oil, which some people claim is an outright cure for many forms of cancer. You’ll learn where to get disease-preventing powders like broccoli powder and beet root powder that you can mix into drinks as part of your daily nutrition.
"I know where to get coral calcium at a fraction of the price you’ve been paying in the health
food stores, and I’ll also explain where to get a powerful mushroom blend that works to boost immune system function and even helps fight cancer.
"Unlike the manufacturers of all these products, I am not bound by unfair FDA restrictions that prohibit free speech. I can tell you the truth about these products and what they can do. You’re going to learn exactly how to prevent and treat chronic disease with the most powerful healing foods and natural medicines on the planet."

If you are a good researcher and have an analytic mind, there is much that you can learn on the internet, so don't be apologetic. I came up with a cure for a couple of serious conditions that were "incurable." I passed them on to my alternative MD. As I am living proof that they work (supported by traditional testing) he is using them to help other patients.

The reason they prescribe synthetic narcotics for pain is so that the drug company can make money. Plain old morphine is dirt cheap. I do a lot of traveling to third-world countries. I always carry paragoric with me on the off-chance that I would get diarrhea.

I bought a pound of pure MSM powder to make eye drops. There are six of us using them. This pound will last years. Sure beats buying those little bottles for several dollars each. My drops use distilled water and have no preservatives. (And I know the MSM is top quality.) The cost of making them per bottle (I save old brown bottles) is only pennies.

Also if you are prescribed saffron (used for macular degeneration), buy one gram of saffron, pulverize it with a pestle and mortar, and steep in 2 ounces of boiled water. You can buy saffron pills, but I don't know if it is high quality saffron and if the product degenerates in the processing. (Also the pills have fillers.)

For athlete's foot use Vick's VaroRub. For thrush use boric acid. For enlarged prostate take saw palmetto. (I could go on and on, but I won't.)

My doctor is an MD who specializes in alternative medicine. Because he is an MD he can take care of problems that require traditional treatment (such as an ear infection). My family has used him for 20 years. He is great with chronic ailments. And his cures don't make you sick.

We are the wave of the future. What traditional MD's still haven't realized is that the patient population gets more sophisticated and knowledgeable every year. Long gone are the days when the doctor was one of the few educated people in town.

Something you can do yourself, to build up the immune system, is pranayam. Do it daily and your feedback in a few weeks, will help others and build up your health tools.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Kapalbhati pranayam -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day. Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 21  times.
