Cut Heart Attack Risk with this Vitamin
Dietary supplements, as we all know, are extraordinarily popular today. They are widely used by people of all ages and backgrounds. They are used to supplement people’s diets, to help you obtain recommended levels of essential nutrients. They are used by some to prevent health problems in the future, such as calcium supplements for osteoporosis and fish oil for heart problems.

A new study sought to examine the association between multivitamin use and heart attacks in about 34,000 adult women. Was there a link? Could multivitamins help shield a person from serious cardiac events?

They compared 31,671 women with no history of heart disease with 2,262 who did have a history, all aged between 49 and 83. In 1997, the women finished a survey about dietary supplement use, diet, and lifestyle factors. The multivitamins were estimated to contain nutrients close to recommended daily allowances: vitamin A (0.9 mg); vitamin C (60 mg); vitamin D (5.0 µg); vitamin E (9.0 mg); thiamine (1.2 mg); riboflavin (1.4 mg); vitamin B-6 (1.8 mg); vitamin B-12 (3.0 µg); and folic acid (400 µg).

Here is what they found. In an average of 10 years of follow-up, 932 cases of heart attacks occurred in the women with no history of heart disease and 269 cases in the other. In the first group, use of multivitamins was directly linked with a 27% reduced risk of a heart attack. That protection rose to 30% if you combined multivitamins with other supplements. But the number for supplements other than multivitamins was only a seven-percent reduced risk.
Now, for those in the study who did have a history of heart disease, multivitamin use was not associated to a reduced risk of heart attack. This suggests that if you do have a heart free of problems, you could boost protection against heart attacks just by popping a daily multivitamin/mineral.

The researchers conclude that more studies are needed with detailed information on the content of those multivitamins, as well as how long it takes to get the heart benefits. This way, we’ll know the best blend of vitamin ingredients in each supplement.

Emergen-C isn't really equivalent to a multi-vitamin, and unless they have a children's version that's a lot of C for a child.  Emergen-C isn't for taking on a regular basis, it's for when you're sick or feeling like something's coming on.  Keep up the multi, and if their immune systems appear weak, that's when it's time to act.  Children's echinacea, for example, is a decent short-term herb for times of weakness, but isn't for regular use.  I prefer astragalus formulas, which can be taken more regularly, but don't know if they're okay for children.  For more expert advice, a naturopath or homeopathic physician would be better, and there are just a ton of good books out there.  Prescription for Nutritional Healing is a good overall book for specific conditions, and there are several books specifically for children's care.

Thanks paxiled!! I didn't even think of that but for the past three weeks I have taken them 5 out of the 7 day in a week... I will look in to it. Also would you know if it is ok to give children a daily multi vitamin every day but then during the flu season in addition to give them the emergan-c  drink packets that say they are a multi vitamin / supplament? I have not started it yet but just curious if this would be ok or just to do one or the other.

Check those lozenges you're taking for zinc.  If they contain zinc they shouldn't be taken regularly, as it will give you too much of it.  They should only be taken when you have a cold or the flu.

It's now that I started making myself drink tons of it, and it's like now I actually crave it and more of it... I had to be one of those statistics where people are clinically dehydrated lol I am doing better now no more dehydration for me :-)

Yes buying each one individually from a food supplement store might be a good idea, it's easier to manage your dose and adapt to your needs. Like i said one 1,000UI D to maintain a good blood concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D. vitamin D is stored in your body and have a half-life of 20-29 days, 1,000 and 2,000UI a day is considered safe anyway and there's no risk of vitamin D toxicity at these dose, 1 500 or 1,000mg C and one of a B complex shouldn't be a problem and you wouldn't have too much or less and at these dose the extra B will simply be flushed. But here again it depends if you have a deficiency in a kind of vitamin, it would be surprising since you eat well. Just be sure to keep you well hydrated everyday. The human body needs about 2 liter of water everyday depending on your weight and physical activity level.

Well basically what I was wondering what was to much or to little like of vit c, it's in my multi vit I use those cough drops called defense and the are 100% of you vit C in one drop and then I eat foods rich in it,  I eat little to small amouts of processed foods, even that is not like fast food but like cerial, or stuff like that.. Most vit I take now, when I think they are needed except the daily which I always take.. I just don't want to take to much of anything or to little for that matter.. So thank you both for replying I will look into each one individually and apply it to my own lifestyle and health...

Not sure exactly what you mean by schedule.  Do you mean when should you take your vitamins?  All the ones you listed should be taken with meals.  As to dosage, as M4 says, that would depend on what you're trying to accomplish.  And you can take too much Vitamin C, it can lead to kidney problems.  It's hard to do, but it can be done.

Hello there, nice to see you here butterfly how youve been?

There's not good schedule when talking about vitamins. It depends on your weight, what you eat, water intake and most importantly if you have an history of vitamin deficiency.

What i can tell you tho is my vitamin schedule. Each morning i take 2,000mg of Ester-C Vitamin C ( you might only need 500 to 1000mg ( much more if you are smoker ) i take 2,000mg because i have issue with something that requires more C ), 1,000UI of VItamin D, a vitamin B complex which contain no more than 50mg/mcg of each Bs and some less and finally i take 3 tea spoon of Green+ powder and 250mg magnesium.

Extra vitamin B ( there will be extra non-absorbed vitamin B trust me ) will be flushed into your urine, your urine will appear to be bright yellow which means it as been flushed. Vitamin C can be taken in high dose without any risk and Vitamin D at 1,000 to 2,000UI should be a problem if we consider that direct exposure to the sun at noon will gives you about 6,000UI in half an hour or less and the D production goes down as the sun goes down which mean above the head exposure with a noon sun will give you the best intake. To avoid vitamin D toxicity and hypercalcemia just don't take more than 40,000UI a day hehe.

And don't forget, the best way to get our vitamins is in food with a healthy diet which mean stay away from processed food and grow your own vegetables if possible.

Best regards,
M4
