Onions Suddenly Smell like ASHTRAY

Hi,

Very odd phenomenon. (I've read similar posts here but not answers yet...)

10 days ago I noticed my body odor, which i usually enjoy, smelled like ashtray to me. like old, cigarettes in an ashtray.

Since then i have noticed it is not just my smell, but other people's bo, including my husband's, which i also usually love! (so sad! :(  )

Yesterday a friend was cooking and as soon as he put the onions on the hot oil, the smell was 100 times more intense -- again ASHTRAY CIGARETTE smell.

one other thing is a faint leftover amount of egyptian musk perfume oil in my glasses case -- also wafts to me like ashtray.

no changes in diet, healthy, etc.

confused and sad about this... anyone have any ideas/ conclusions?

  Welcome to the forum arjibar.
  Look up Parosmia. It sounds like a typical case of this condition.
Normally this does not last for too long, unless there's serious damage (or death) to the Olfactory Receptor Neurons, the ones responsible for detecting and identifying scents and odors.
Have you had a respiratory infection recently (upper tract), or head injury, or exposure to any strong chemicals? Any one of these could cause this.

It's a wait and see situation, as medical doctors, usually do not have many treatment options to offer for Parosmia. If one does not like to wait, one of the simplest things to try is topical nasal saline drops. That could provide some temporary relief, as the offensive odor dissipates, in over 50% of the cases.
Also, I heard (through the circles of Energy Medicine Practitioners) that Energy re-balancing through  Accupressure Point Tapping and Chakra Balancing, was successful
in treating Parosmia.
You should check with an ENT if this issue persists or worsens.
