It will always be anecdotal or such, as coconut oil cannot be patented.
Any major clinical study/trial involves big dollars and is reserved mainly for pharmaceuticals who are not interested because of the lack of profit potential.

The science is there.
Don't buy into industry sponsored propaganda that saturated fats and cholesterol are the big enemy.
There's not one true study that proves this.
I confronted a clinical dietitian in the past, who had quoted a study on the
damaging effects of saturated fats and cholesterol (which would include coconut oil), in which I found major holes!!!
The mice in the study were fed powdered cholesterol!!! mixed with their regular feed, which inflamed their arteries, because that's what powdered cholesterol does in denatured powdered form as it is highly oxidized, and
naturally caused heart disease!!
Plain Rubbish!!!

My wife was a clinical dietitian, but no longer is, because of all the politics, protocols and business practices which put the patient at great risk!!!
The biggest sponsors of medical and related professional associations are the largest food/drink/drug/chemical multinationals! Go figure!

Thanks for letting me rant.

If you look at traditional societies where coconuts and coconut oil are staples, heart disease and alzheimer's, even arthritic conditions there are very low.

It is one of the few substances that can cross the blood brain barrier and fuel the brain (being a medium chain fatty acid), when glucose uptake is restricted.
There's tons of valid science to support the medicinal properties of coconut oil.

Blessings to all!
Niko

The study was anecdotal. It may not hurt but so far there is still no cure.

Coconut oil. Has anyone ever heard of this for alzheimers patients?  I was informed of this for my dad to take 3 tablespoons daily.

You have to remember to get care for the caregiver as well as care for the person. Take advantage of the support groups. You are not alone in this!

Also, there are lucid moments until the very end. People vary. Don't argue. Just take about the old times. They remember that until the very end.

Hi, sorry to hear this,

Is he on meds for this to help slow it down
My mom got it at 64 and she passed at 72 , the last 11 months of her life she was bed ridden

Very sad journey your going be on, remember it's not your dad talking or doing the crazy things he will do and say, it's the disease

You will need to go into his world, if you don't he will be more confused, love him everyday, let him know your there, it's a very scary world for him.

You will become his parent him your child.

But it's all worth it, he was there for you know is your time to be there for him

God Bless you and your Dad,    Heart

I am very sorry to hear about your father.

It can vary so there is no real answer. It can depend on what stage he is in and stages can be fluid as the stages don't always come in any exact way.

It can also depend on his health. You also have to understand that it effects more than his mind and that his whole body is going to be effected. So slowly he will lose the ability to eat, and to control his bodily functions as the disease takes over in the later stages.

Some of it can also depend on personality. My MIL was pretty placid, while my FIL was not, and it was quite a lot of work.

You also have to decide if you want 24 hour care at home, and if you can modify the home enough to make it safe (so they cannot wander, work the stove, etc.) or decide on a home provided you can find a good one.

The local alzheimers chapter is helpful. You also need to have all the legal ducks in a row.
