I have memory problems

by Ruthiebear, Sep 16, 2009 07:48PM
I am a 61 year old women who is on med's for high blood pressure, cholestorol, blood thinner, and maybe several years ago I might of had a TIA? They didn't know for sure at the ER/   I saw a report from my MRI recent report, which said I had this small cyst in my brain.
I always had this one problem for years that is remembering peoples names. But most recently I am having problems with other things that I never had before remembering. I make up excuses with people around me so they won't know.
I have to fig out a different doctor to see.  My doctor is ok if you got the flu but not anything else.  He isn't thorough.

How many meds do you take , I suspect you are on one for blood pressure ,statin for cholesterol, any others ? one thing I do know that I have experienced and many others also that some meds especially when you take a few, cause short term memory loss, especially the anti depressants like Xanax and Lexapro...This is one reason I only use supplements now and indeed I have even noticed it with some of those like 5HTP ..so first I doubt if you have alzheimers however do get it checked out if you are concerned . Ask a Pharmacist about the mix of meds as you may find its as simple as that ....Good Luck let us know how you are doing ....

Hi thank you for responding to my post.

I was thinking it might be my med's one or two of them causing
me to have memory problem lately!   And more then it use to be just a couple of months ago?
I don't take dispression pills!  I do take Asprin, or my blood pressure pills, and plavix for blood thinning/ and a new one for my cholestrol.  So good idea I will ask the pharmacist

thank you again/

You are welcome, I have found that many folks who have short term memory loss do take meds, you may still find that the Pharmcist says they should be okay , if that does happen see whether your memory returns when you (ask the Doctor) if you stop them for a few days. This is up to you,I am not reccomending you do it is your choice and only as a test. 2 of the meds plus the new statin are strong meds...Ask before you do anything, I still think it is med related Good luck let us know .
