Prognosis for late stage Alzheimer's

Does anyone have an idea of the life-span of a person (relatively healthy) who is in late stage Alzheimer's?   My mom does
nothing for herself except  open her mouth when she is fed.  About 14 mos. ago, she was walking, talking (intelligibly), &
taking care of her basic needs with a little guidance.  Now she is nonverbal & sits in a wheelchair; seems like she has no
brain function, only her body is alive.  I would love to hear any feedback from anyone who has been there.  Thank you very
much!!!  Roni

Thank you.  My mom just turned 67 a few mos. ago.  She's in an assisted living facility for 1 & a 1/2 yrs.  I took care of her prior to the facility.  That was a nightmare everyday.  You & your mom (I believe) were very lucky that you didn't have to go thru the horror of the progression of the disease.  Thanks, Roni

That does seem fast ...is she at home, my mom was a few years with it and actually I believe she would have lived longer if she had been happier, she never got to this stage you are at with your mom, she had a heart attack in her mid eighties , we have an expert/Doctor forum on MH you click on the right side on the forum page you may get more answers .If she is at home and you can look after her it is the very best you can do, for her ,you will be forever glad you did.
