Sorry that wasnt the right link i gave you. Here it is http://csn.cancer.org/ they have an anal cancer forum there with survivors and people going thru treatment.
Thanks Todd...I stumbed across that groups one night ...but couldn't remember the name. It is a new resource since my treatment in 2007. From what I read ...good comments and support.
Bonny, my cancer was caused by HPV as well. Big surprise, as I am sure it was to you. Had to fight feelings that I had brought the cancer on myself..
As to rad/chemo. As I mentioned, it was the treatment I had. Keep trying to get a clear response that you will understand. A concensus needs to be reached. But you are the patient...have a say in what you want to try. My best to you....
Check out the Anal cancer board at cancersurvivors.org they have many people who post there. Mostly anal cancer is treated with chemo/rad. And They say to be a skeptic of doctors that try to treat it with surgery.
Hi and thanks for responding..... It is definitely confusing since all the other 2nd opinions and even my oncologists can't believe I was not treated again for this cancer.....they all agree after two surgeries and yet more cancer, that chemo and/or radiation would be the next step.... and since the recurrence rate is about 95%, chemo may give me 2 - 10 years w/o having this cancer again....
Mine is from the HPV virus and most likely from the cervical cancer I had in 1989... They did say it can lay dormant for years and years then something (like chemo/radiation 2007) can trigger it to become active... and of course it spread to the outer vaginal area also...
Also, it has changed it's structure and the abnormal cells which could be seen before now look to be normal....so when the Dr took the 4 biopsies, the cells looked fine, but he just wanted to be sure he got good margins..... voila, 3 of the 4 (normal looking cells) biopsy's were positive again.....
I'm scaired they jst haven't biopsied enough places as I have had chronic low back pain for the last year!!!
Well, anyway, thanks for listening!!!!
Bonny
Hi there and thanks for posting...
As far as I know, I am the only anal cancer survivor in this forum....dont post regularly, so may be wrong.
You have been thru' the wars! I am responding so you will know you are not being ignored.
Hmmm....at first I was puzzled by the phrase 'cancer in situ'..need to bone up on latin..heh.
As I am 3 years away from treatment for anal cancer stage IIIb, I wouldn't know if it had recurred or not. Guess I would go by symptoms...such as bleeding/pain.
You have had other opinions...what did they say? There is a reason the doctor (i am guessing he is a surgeon who treated you to begin with) told you that. It is worrisome that he didn't give you a 1)reason, or 2)referral.
So..to answer your question succinctly: no I am not a survivor of many cancers.
If you want to chat, feel free to do so anytime. I accept pms or notes...and of course posts are probably the best for your purposes.
Best wishes.
