skin tear on side of anus

Does having a skin tear on the side of your anus mean something more serious than a anal fissure. I read that anal fissures from trauma only occur  on posterior midline and if they occur on sides if anus it is usually something more serious like herpes. Is this true?

Is this something I need to have checked out? It really only lasted about a week.

Hi, anal fissures are more common in the posterior aspect, but they can occur in other areas also. And yes herpes can present as a fissure.  But with this there may be associated lesions in the skin nearby the anus, like the vulva or the thighs. But when in doubt this can be confirmed by blood tests for antibodies or PCR tests. Only a consultation with your primary care physician can help diagnose. Regards.
