Ascending aortic aneurysm

New member, I have had my aortic valve replaced two times once in 1986 and in 2002 after my last operation I was told that I have an Ascending aortic aneurysm 4.6 cm, I have tests done during the year to check for enlargement nothing yet. To make a long story short my concerns are I have to do a lot of lifting at work anywhere from 45 to 80 pounds several times a day. Does this pose a danger to me?

I certainly would think it would pose a danger.  You certainly need to address that question to your cardiologist.

It could be a problem.  You need to find an expert aortic surgeon to advise you.  It concerns me that the last surgeon redid your AVR but left a 4.6cm aneurysm in your chest -- if I am reading your post correctly.  You might check out this website for more information about thoracic aortic aneurysms:  www.bicuspidfoundation.com.

Have you had any follow up on this?

My son had his tricuspid valve replaced when he was 26.  When they replaced the valve, they fixed his ascending aortic aneurysm at the same time.  They use some kind of nylon that "lasts 1000 years" according to the doctor.  My mom and nephew have also had the same operation.  I wonder why they just didn't fix your aneurysm while they were in there.  Your lifting has me concerned.  My son was told not to lift anything before the surgery, but his aneurysm was quite large by then >5cm.  His went from insignificant to ready to dissect in < 6 months.
I worry about him having to go thru that operation again. . .his was almost 4 years ago.  I hear the new valves are lasting 20 years.  He has a pig valve that has a life of 10 years.  Make sure you have regular echocardiograms
