I have an MRI + CT Tomorrow.

by Adam1986, Aug 17, 2009 01:14PM
I am a 23 year old male. About 2 years ago I had what could be described as the worst headache of my life. During the headache, my eyes were very sensitive to light. These symptoms lasted for about 2 hours, and I had experienced similar headaches for roughly 1 week after that (with a lesser intensity) during times of physical exertion (weight lifting, sex, running, basketball). I had not heard from these headaches again until about 1 week ago, I experienced this again, but with higher intensity and frequency while having sex with my girlfriend. It was sudden, unexpected and pretty much incapacitated my ability to perform ANY physical activities. The pain hit me like a truck, not increasing over time.

The pain is in the back and base of my skull, is throbbing and stabbing. I currently have a headache in that location, although not severe. My right eye hurts more than the back of my skull. I have been getting these headaches almost every day since, varying in duration and severity with pain behind my right eye on occasion. My pupils have not been differing in dilation. My balance, speech, and memory is fine during these intense headaches as well, so I am hoping that my symptoms are not sign of an aneurysm. I went to two different doctors and both think that I am having migraines triggered by a hormonal release, however I'd like to get your opinions as well.

I have an MRI + CT scheduled tomorrow morning.

Sorry. I forgot to mention that I have hypothyroidism (Graves Disease) and am currently on levothyroxine. I have been smoking cigarettes since age 18 on average half a pack/day. I smoke marijuana from time to time. I drink sparingly on weekends, I don't really ever get "shitfaced". Other than that, I don't use any drugs.

Just thought I'd throw some health history and details out there to help anybody who might be trying to diagnose my symptoms.

I went in for my MRI + CT scan today. They performed the CT first, and determined that the MRI was not necessary after taking a few hundred pictures of my brain. I am not sure if this is good news or bad news (they are not allowed to tell me anything), but I always heir on the optimistic side. I have a follow up appointment with my doctor on Monday to review and diagnose something, if anything.

I do not currently have any aches or pains. I had intercourse with my girlfriend earlier today and there was no pain at all.

Also, I read a post by a doctor on this forum about someones condition stating that a strained muscle in the neck can cause severe headaches during times of physical exertion.

I strained a muscle in my neck the same day these headaches started again. This might just be a coincidence (as stated by both doctors that I visited last week) but I'd like some additional opinions or information if at all possible.

Hi Adam,

Did you ever happen to find out what was causing this?  I've been having the exact same symptoms.
