Hi there!

An initial CT usually within the first 24-48 hour may be negative for an ischaemic CVA, since the changes that can be observed in the event of one, may take time to develop. Hence an MRI is preferred when an ischaemic stroke is suspected; while CT is preferred for haemorrhagic strokes.
