is it safe to fly

My mother had an aneurysm clipped with a titanium clip in her brain a few years back, she will be flying to see me in about a month.  We are concerned is it safe for her to fly?

Mikahsmom0830,

With respect to the clip movement I don't think it would be an issue.  Jets are pressurized to a certain elevation i.e. 6,900 feet when flying at 30,000 ft.  At one time, I was also concerned because my wife has a clip from a previous manufacturing generation.  Her issue was with Migraines that started shortly after her clipping.  We believed that weather barometric pressure change was the culprit and this is just about the same as cabin pressure in a jet.  It turns out that her migraines are, but aren't, caused by barometric pressure.  Sounds strange, but a different component of pressure changes cause her migraines.

So unless your mother has migraine complications, I think she'll be OK!
