My 6 year old has anger issues in school

by Whisper470, Oct 12, 2009 02:05PM
I need some help.. My son has been been having some problems in school.. He's started having problems when he went to pre k and then when he was in kindergarten.. He got kicked out a couple of times. Now he is in first grade.. He has had his tonsils and add-nods out.. He also has really bad acid reflux. We thought that we had it under control.. He went to school for a while and every thing was going good. The school and I were working out things to help him out.. But this past week he got anger and got kicked out for 5 days and now I have a hearing.. He does good at home when it's just one on one with me.. But i feel the principal just pushes his buttons to get him anger then he is instead of letting him go for a while and let him come down..I don't feel that the school can handle it.. I don't know what to do..

Have you asked him (1) if he likes school, and (2) why school makes him angry. Why did you have his tonsils and adenoids (adenoids) removed? Was that when the bad behavior began?  How does he behave in a group outside of school? For instance, at a party.

Another thought. If he is an only child he may resent not being the center of attention at school.

anger is a sort of transformation of pain, it can also be caused by fear, sometimes traditional public school is just not right for certain children, alot of children do better one on one or with small groups of parent selected peers, you may want to start looking into alternative education, homeschool, charter, montessori, 12k online
