The short answer to your question is yes it can...like with all bacterial infections in the body humans are at risk for valve damage should the infection become acute enough especially if the infection has gone untreated for a length of time and gets resistant to treatment options.  What basically happens is that the infection infests our bloodstream and generally heads towards the weaker parts of our organs and for many that could be the mitral valve, the aortic valve anywhere and not necessarily to the heart with Q Fever.  Unfortunately many times the bacteria with this infection can lay dormat in our bodies for days on end doing its damage before the symptoms pop up that are alarming enough to cause irreversible damages to our hearts and other organs.  This is one of those infections that the docs have to get a very agressive treatment plan to rid our bodies of the infection.
