White coat hypertension

Today I went to the Hospital to pass a treadmill stress test and my blood pressure was to high that the Doctor have to give me apart of my normal medicines, metoprolol, dinitrate of isosorbide and alprazolam .25, one tablet of captotril. Nothing works, so he refused to make the test, this problem occurs every time when I have to go to the Doctor officce.

White coat hypertension is very normal and I have this problem myself. When I'm relaxed, my blood pressure is 120/70. I've measured up to 160/100 at the doctor's office, especially before EKG's (which I really hate, because I've somehow learned to interpret them myself).

I would recommend you measure your blood pressure at home, and give the results to your doctor. This is a really common phenomenon (if the blood pressure at home is normal, of course).

Ditto on is_something_wrongs post.  What a great doc that they refused to take a chance with your health and cancel the test...all docs should be that concerned i think.  You need to call and ask the doc what you can do because simply put every time you go to see the doc your b/p goes up from the anxiety of the appt.  He/she should be able to give you some suggestions on how to avoid this happening or maybe you could go onto our Medhelp site under forums and click on meditation to help you out a little...you can't win for losing sometimes huh? Sorry you are going thru this i know its hard.....
