metroprolol weaning

metroprolol weaning

My dr is a conplete moron! He totally forgot he prescribed metoprolol for me a month ago...with the chart in hand so he must have forgot to write it in. The whole point of my last 2 visits with him was to wean off the beta blocker (metoprolol). So i was on 50 then weaned down to 25. How long will it take to wean off of this? The whole point to this drug, in addition to HCTZ was for hypertension caused from my Birth Control pill- which I have decided to stop. I do not want to just abruptly just stop taking this beta blocker for fear of adverse reaction or heart attack....can anyone tell me how to safely wean off since my dr is a complete idiot! I can't take the mood swings I get from ths pill or any of the weight gain.

I would advice you see another doctor.

You should never instantly stop using beta blockers, it can be dangerous, especially if it's prescribed to cure high blood pressure. You need to see a doctor you trust, that actually cares. We can't give you advice how to stop using meds, a doctor should.

Your ideas on not stopping using beta blockers instantly are correct and very good. But I hope you understand that we can't give more specific advice. A doctor should.
