Atropine ointment

My dog was involved in an altercation with another dog, resulting in an injury to the tissue surrounding his eye. A stain was done and no injury to the eyeball itself occurred. He came home with OptiVet drops, antibiotic eye ointment, atropine ophthalmic ointment, and Rimadyl.  He has not had the atropine ointment in about 48 hours and his pupil is still very dilated. Is this normal?

Yes.  Atropine lasts for about three days.  Tomorrow his eye should return to normal.  If not please consult your vet.

Good question.  My dog is healing from a corneal ulceration and we've dropped her dosing down to every other day-- she had stopped eating and was sleeping all day. Our vet thinks she had nasuea from this med.

I hope your dog is feeling better soon.
