Avoid hing leg paralization

Avoid hing leg paralization

Hello,

my dog had an epilepsy episode 2 weeks ago and he was exhausted, laying on the bed for 6 hours from the time of the episode. We took him to the vet and after a few tests we found he had no movement at hid back legs. After an injection the vet gave him, my dog was back on his feet just 1 hour later. Hour after hour he could walk better and just 8 hours after the injection he was walking, jumping on the couch and feeling happy in general.

This being said, I see he did not gain complete movement on his rear legs and he sometimes stumbles as if he has no strenght/control, although he still jumps, walks etc just like normal.

How can I avoid the worst?

Thanks.

It sounds as if your dog may have herniated or hurt a spinal disk resulting in spinal nerve damage while having the seizure.  The vet gave an injection of anti-inflammatories but your dog will probably require more oral steroids, muscle relaxers, and possibly other medications until the inflammation of the spinal nerves subsides. Please call your vet to see if he recommends continued medical treatment.
