Blood in Stool

Blood in Stool

I just noticed a small amount of blood in my dogs stool. It only appears at the start of his bowel movement and there doesn't appear to be any other blood in his stool.

Blood in the stool can be due to gastrointestinal parasites, anal gland infections, anal fistulas or other anatomical damage; anal, rectal, or perianal tumors, tumors in the colon, gastritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and more.

If would be best if you brought a fresh fecal sample to your vet to check for parasites.  If parasites are found, they can be treated and you will have your answer.  However, If no parasites are found than you should take your dog to the vet for an exam, which would include an anal gland check, rectal exam,  and other diagnostic testing.
