Cat reacting to Nizoral? Vomiting with blood present

My rescue kitten (2.5#) is being treated with .5ml of oral Nizoral for ringworm.  My other cat, 2 years and 14.5# started exhibiting signs of ringworm aswell.  I gave him 1.5 ml of Nizoral with food at 10pm.  At 4am, he vomited all the food and since then has vomited bile (numerous times) and has had diarrea (diarrhea)...both with fresh blood.  I am assuming the Nizoral has upset his stomach.  What should I do to help him? I have taken away his food.

I recommend stopping the nizoral immediately in both cats. Although it is useful in dogs, in cats it is too hard on the liver, especially in kittens. Since you are seeing blood in the vomit and  his stool, medications to reduce GI ulceration may be helpful, but since he cannot keep down oral medications and will quickly become dehydrated, I recommend taking him to an emergency clinic tonight for fluids and injectable medications, and labwork to evaluate his liver. Once he is completely recovered/liver enzymes are normal, then a much safer oral antifungal medication would be fluconazole. ideally used in combination with weekly lime sufur dips. For the kitten, I also recommend lime sulfur dips weekly, and start fluconazole when it is 12 weeks old. Antifungal therapy is continued until 2 negative ringworm cultures are obtained, usually after several months.
Good luck,
