Cat urinating on beds

Cat urinating on beds

Hello

We recently took in our daughter's cat to live with us, and we have one cat of our own.  The cat had been living with 2 great danes and wasn't getting a lot of attention, in addition to being terrorized by the dogs.  The cat has urinated on 2 different beds within a months' time.  We have cat pans around the house, and the cat has used these pans.  I don't see her doing it, but we notice it later when we go to get in bed.  We are trying to keep her our of the bedrooms, but sometimes this is difficult.  We have never had a cat do this before.  Do you have any suggestions on how to stop this behavior?

Please check first to see if she has a urinary tract infection, which are very common in cats who have recently changed residences or are under any stress.

If she does not have a urinary tract infection and the problem is behavioral, than it is important to get her to feel comfortable.  Try the feline pheromone "Feliway", which is a plug-in air freshener that gives cats' a feeling of well-being.  If this is ineffective, please consult with your vet for behavioral modification medications or herbal remedies.

Hi Hopey,

The cat is well aware of what she is doing. I have a male cat with a huge personality (he is the boss of the household -he is the father of the rest of our cats) who used to do that before when we did things that were upsetting him: A ginger cat used to invade his territory and they had awful fights. Eventually the fights started taking place in our very livingroom during the night (the invader cat got in through the catflap). We found the invader cute, and he was friendly to us, so we fed him and pet him. The cat moved to an armchair that used to be our cat's. Once the cat dared to lie on our bed. The next day our cat not only pissed in our bed, but... (we deserved it, we decided to give the invader to my husband's parents.) In another occasion the house got filled with guests who stayed for a few days, and our cat again let us know his opinion by pissing in one of their beds... That cat of yours seems to be very unhappy with something you're doing.
