Cat with FIV - Mushroom Extract?

My cat, Hobo, is FIV positive.  He had dental work done last month.  Since then he has lost weight and is not eating well.  My vet fears the stress of the dental work has caused the FIV virus to become active.  A friend mentioned a product called host defense which is intened for humans and is made of mushroom extracts.  It is advertised to boost the imune system of humans by boosting NK (Natural Killer) cell activity up to 300%.  Is it safe to give this product to my cat?  Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

Yes you can use mushroom extracts and NK factors in cats just make sure the extract is not in an alcohol base but in a glycerine base.  (cats cannot stand the taste of alcohol), if it is in capsule or pill form than of course, there was nothing to worry about.  Also Colosturm is a natural immune stimulator and you could also try Essiac plus tea, available online.
