Cause of bleeding rectum/colon?

Cause of bleeding rectum/colon?

Hi Dr,

I had to admit my dog to vet hospital tonight. I came home him having blood leaking out of his rectum and brought him to a Vet hospital.

He had many labs run, x-rays which I intend on getting copies of tomorrow when I visit. There was no obvious obstruction and the flagged labs were the bun and creatine and RBC which the vet said could be attributed to dehydration. I'm terribly worried, he's like my 4th child. When I called to check on him tonight, they had given him fluids to bring him up to normal, but he still has the diarrea (diarrhea) coming out and it's still red. He'll get an ultrasound tomorrow because they want to look further and he specifically showed me an area in his stomach that could be food, but with the xray they couldn't be certain.

What are some causes of this? Could I have done this w/giving him some meat in his food? I'm worried and sad, and just a mess - I love him so much.

thank you for your time,
shell

I hope you will post some of the results you have found.  But I would not worry too much about having given him some meat.  While a change like that can cause an upset stomach or even pancreatitis, most likely not bloody diarrhea.

We hope it is not parvo-virus as that is very serious and contagious.  A foreign object or even a toxin can cause such symptoms also.

Let us know what they find and we'll see if we can help further.
