Dental extraction and Doxicycline

Following dental cleaning and extraction of two teeth, is it necessary for my dog to be on Doxicycline for 1 month?

Are you sure that the doxycycline is just for dental disease?  Is it also being used for a tick borne disease or exposure?

Regardless, doxycycline is a very safe antibiotic which also has a mild anti-inflammatory component and is also inexpensive.  If you are worried about the length of time please also give your dog a good probiotic such as Prostora, Culturelle, or VSL-3 while he is on the doxycycline.  Prostora is available from your vet.  Culturelle and VSL-3 are available from online sources, such as amazon.com and over the counter at health food stores and some pharmacies.
