Doggie being inappropriate???

My friend has a bloodhound dog (intact male) who licks his private until he emits semen (he has done this since he was a young pup and he is about a year or two old now). She told me he does this when he gets excited.  The semen appears to have had blood in it and my friend wants to take her dog to the vet but is imbarressed to tell the vet the problem.    I promissed I would lookup this problem on-line.  If you can offer any suggestions it will be greatly appreciated.

The dog should be neutered to stop the behavior.  Blood is not a normal discharge from the penis.  It could either be a prostate infection or a urinary tract infection and should be treated ASAP.  There is no reason for your friend to be embarrassed!
