Dry, itchy skin

Dry, itchy skin

Hi!
A few months ago I purchased a black and white dwarf hamster from Petco and he's been fine, but I have noticed that he lost a small patch of fur on his back and the exposed skin is a little dry. He seems to be acting normally( eating, drinking, walking around) It doesnt seem to be bothering him, he doesnt scratch it or anything. I'm not sure if i should purchase a cream for the skin. I called Petco and they dont know what it would be. I dont use cedar chips and his food has been the same since i got him

Thank you so much!
xoxo

It could be ringworm, or skin mites.  You could see if Petco has a mild over-the-counter antifungal treatment for hamsters, and try that for 2 weeks.  If there is no response, than a skin scraping and further evaluation should be performed by your veterinarian.
