Enemas & Side Effects

Sorry I think I posted this in the wrong forum before, so this might be a duplicate thread.

My dog got an enema this past Thurs and he is "leaking" poop. It's just coming out (a little bit each time) without him trying. Is this normal after an enema? I'm concerned since it's been 2 days since he got it and he's having this problem.

Has anyone experienced this before. Should I take him to the vet?

Thanks

Thank you Dr. Cheng,

One quick follow-up question (I can't get ahold of my vet today)...would it be okay to give him some Pepto Bismol today  to help the diaherra-ish stool? He's on predisone and clindmycin (anti-biotic) for myelitis. He's a 9lb chihuahua mix.

Thanks
Sandy

Yes this can be a normal side effect.  Sometimes the enema works too well and you may have to add some boiled rice to his diet until the stool returns to normal.  If your dog has constipation often your dog should be on a special high fiber diet or you should add pysllium, bran or other fiber supplement to his diet as well as probiotics such as is in active yogurt.
