Giardia Vaccine

My dog (Beagle) was recently vacinated with the Giardia Vaccine, she was vacinated on a thursday and the following Monday she became violently ill throwing up , on tuesday I took her to the Vet and they said that based off her blood work that she had developeed Reinal Deficiency. After 2 days of IV fluids her blood work had gotten worse.  My question is could this be from the Vaccine?  I had no choice but to put her to sleep. The Dr stated there was nothing that could be done?

I am so sorry about your dog.  I do not use the giardia vaccine in my practice.  The giardia vaccine is not even meant to prevent the giardiasis but is administered as an adjunct to treatment of the disease.  Giardia is ubiquitous in the environment, is found in normal animals,  and usually does not cause any problems, because normal flora in the dog can hold the disease in check.  If the giardia lambia parasite does cause diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms it is highly treatable with anti-parasitic medication.  

I am unable to tell you if the kidney disease  that your dog experienced was due to the giardia vaccine or just coincidental.  

I know Dr. Jean Dodds (who has been mentioned above), and attended her lectures  at the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association Conference, last fall.  She does believe that all vaccines have the potential to cause immunodeficiency, and that we veterinarians routinely over vaccinate.  This knowledge, however,  is not going to help your poor dog though.  

If I can find out any more pertinent information I will post it.  I will contact Dr. Dodds,  but it may take awhile to get an answer.

how old was your dog?If you google adverse reactions with giardia vaccine the literature state that this vaccine is not reccomended and adverse reactions common.U should read Dr.Jean Dodds Vaccinations Protocols and read about new standards for vaccines.My 10 yr.old greyhound now deceased received a rabies vaccine at age 8.He was ill within 24 hrs.and developed an autoimmune disorder called intestinal lymphantegica.I spent thousands of dollars treating him over the past 2 years only to lose him.My deepest condolences to you upon ur loss!

makes sense doesn't it?my dogs will never have another rabies shot...they have no way to be exposed to it.What a way to learn!sigh!:)))

i had 3 shelter cats with bad giardia....pudding poop and lethargy....fecal showed the parasite and we treated with a powder mixed in wet food..can't recall name.....and did follow-up fecal in 2 weeks.Had a greyhound with it.....followed same protocol and giardia all gone in 2 weeks!
