Hamster Dieing

Two days ago something red began to come out of my hamsters butt. Now it has turned red and is hard. What is wrong?

If your hamster had a bad clostridium or heliobacter infection in his Gastrointestinal tract it could cause copious diarrhea and an eventual rectal prolapse. A rectal prolapse occurs when the rectum actually falls out of the anus. After the rectum has been out of the body for a while it will dry out and become hardened.

A rectal prolapse is a medical emergency and requires surgical repair.
