High Fever-High WBC - Very Stiff Top Line & Neck

High Fever  -  High WBC

Oct 18 Ivy, a 15 months Female show some stiffness with pain on her top line and neck, she also had some very small bloody discharge and hard time to get up in her feet, I take her fever she had 103.5 next morning we visit the vet, the WBC was at 19.000, they give her 500 ml Cephalexin for two weeks he think she had UTI the fever wend down for the next 12 days, week later the dog felt good, then the fever then back up again after 7-10 days and show the same symptoms. (Pain in the top line stiff neck and some very small discharge)
I take back to her vet this time the WBC was 28.000, this time we give her Nexcel shots for 7 days, the fever went down the 2nd day and stay down for the next 5 days, day after we finish the Nexcel she got fever again new WBC count was at 22.000, and she had some crystals in urine also, the vet give her Baydril and Nexcel  for two weeks, the dog start to fell good for about 7-8 days, well still on ( Necxel and Baydril)  the fever and the symptoms come back  this time 105.5 I take her back to clinic,

All the X-rays show nothing

The vet recommended spaying her, so we did!! Fever was down for the first day and next day the dog got very weak and again very high fever (105,5 and the same night got (I think paralyze or very, very weak) she can even move her legs or her self at all, the only think she was moving is her eyes and her tongue.

My Vet raised his hands, he said he doesn’t think is nothing alls he can do at this stage,  I put the dog down Xmas day and out of her painful misery,

What can possible cause all this? My vet does not think was Cancer, any opinions out there?

Thank you in advance

I am so very sorry about your loss!

Unfortunately, I can only speculate as to the cause.  It may have been an infectious process that spread through out her whole body causing bacteremia, and/or septicemia. Bacteremia is an infection of the blood and septicemia (sepsis) is a systemic (whole body) inflammatory response, plus infection, plus the presence of organ dysfunction.

How she came by this infection is unknown, but it could have begun as a pyometra (infection of the uterus in unspayed female dogs), or a kidney infection, or other infection.  By the time the infection was discovered it seems to have already become wide spread.  It is very difficult to come back from sepsis.

A post mortem examination, blood cultures and other diagnostics could possibly give a definitive cause.  Please consult your veterinarian about these if you have not already done so.
