How long required to full recovery for my dog from lung infection

My doctor say he is suffering from lung infection. He is coughing blood and have breathing difficulties. They told me they will need to check the lung and see what infection he has plus they also say that they cannot confirm they can cure him. And he is on oxygen only when he has breathing difficulties and on anti biotics everyday. The vet recomand us to put him down but i dont want because he is only there for around 7 days.

I need advice. And i need to know an adverage days how long to recover from any lung infection. I happen to see a website about pneumonia on dogs need about 3weeks to recover from anti biotics everyday and oxygen for them to breath properly.

Your main question is how long to recover.  That is impossible to tell.  All animals just like people - are different.  Different immunity, levels of infection, complicating factors on and on.  However, I can say that just simple lung infections are not only serious but do take many weeks for recovery.

That said you may not be dealing with just a simple lung infection here.  Because of the age and the murmur I would want to be sure this was not Congestive Heart Failure, Heartworm Disease or another complex problem.  In these cases, antibiotics and rest will not take care of the problem.

We would need to know much more to advise you.  At 11 years with cloudy lungs, a heart murmur and some sort of infection, I would say the outlook is not good.  But one never knows.  If the veterinarian is recommending euthanasia it could be worse than we know.  I think within a few days you should know if he is improving or getting worse and you may have your answer.
