Internal Stitches?

Internal Stitches?

My dog had a surgery for an umbilical hernia back in May and had the outer stitches removed two weeks after. The other day while playing with him I felt something sharp as if the internal stitches were sticking out. I checked today and it is not there but I see pointy bumps were the stitches are. The vet that removed the stitches said the body would absorb the stitches. Made me understand that they were dissolvable. But I am now thinking they are metal. I am going to take him to the vet to be sure but I wanted to know if anyone can tell me if this is normal?

It is normal.  There is a three layer closure for a umbilical hernia repair.  The layer just below the skin is the one you can feel.  It can take several months these sutures to dissolve and you can continue to fell them, obviously, until completely absorbed.

Please call you vet about them if you have any concerns.
