Peritonitis or Feline Aids

I took my cat to the vet this weekend and was told that she either has Peritonitis or feline aids.

If she has feline aids, does my other cat now have it and how is it transfered?

If it is peritonitis after how long should I see an improvement (she has been put on antibiotics)?

What else should I look for and what other advise do you have for me. Thanking you in advance.

Sorry about your cat!  Feline infectious peritonitis is very hard to diagnose with tests.  If your cat's stomach is filled with fluid a sample of the fluid could be sent for cytology.  However, there is an inexpensive and fast test for feline aids.  It requires very little blood, and can be done while you and your cat wait.  Your other cat could also have the aids blood test and you would know immediately to set your mind at rest.  Feline aids in transmitted through very close contact,sex, and fighting

Symtoms: Extreme weight loss, eats but clearly not enough (food always available), lethargic, bloated stomach.  Vet said she had liquid in the abdomin (abdomen), therefore suspects peritonitis.  Has asked that I come back for blood tests if antibiotics don't work.

Thnaks for your reply.  Unfortunately my cat had to be put down. Aids was ruled out. Hep was not rules out, niether was peritonitis, but the vet said that her prognosis was very poor and she was suffering, and very bloated.
